End of January Report

Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2024 Jan 25th

This week has been a bit slower on the salmon fishing front. Although that's only based on a couple reports, so if you have been out please send me an email. The weather has been very calm but foggy, so make sure your electronics are up to par.

There have been keeper Chinook taken along the East Side of Gabriola about 230 ft. down mostly on hoochies. chartreus glow have been best. Blue glow spoons are also working. There is lot's of bait all around Gabriola and Entrance Island, and large schools of Coho feeding on them. We might have a case of too much bait for the salmon to notice the lures, but lot's of bait is good to see.

Prawning is fairly good in the few sub-areas that are open. With reasonable amounts of spot prawns and good amounts of side stripes.

I got one really good crabbing report. One of the best I've seen in a couple years. This is good news as crabbing has been poor for a while. Yum Yum bait and herring are my favorite crab baits.

In the fresh water side, after a few good weeks of steelhead fishing things are hold due to high water levels. Always check the hydro tables before you head out.

Remember it's Vancouver Boat Show Jan 31-Feb 4th. Come see us there or contact the store for the boast show deals

Thanks to Brett Dougan for another good fishing report and photo seen above.

Tips up,
