Back into Winter

The weather feels like we are back into winter, but the fish are still biting. The reports from last weekend were outstanding. From French Creek to Galiano Island most fishermen got their limit of 12-13lb Springs. Avid angler Brett Dougan reported seven legal Springs landed in two hours off Gabriola Island. Porlier Pass fishermen had similar success. So the Chinook are spread out over a wide area in big numbers.
Howe sound fishermen are also having an excellent time with their best lures being Skinny Gee Trap Shack spoons behind a Silver Betsy Flasher.
Most came from deep water but several fishermen got into them in 120-14ft of water. Green and white and black and white hoochies were working. This surprised me as with the herring in I'd have thought plugs, spoons and anchovies would be best. Maybe the salmon just wanted to see something different.
The one report I received from Comox was an outlier with many fish caught but most still undersized. This may have just been one fishermen's bad luck. If you are in the Comox Campbell River area I would love more reports from there.
The herring are still moving in although there were a few small spawns reported Saturday morning. There should be a lot more to come although its impossible to say when.
