Bass fishing is on fire with all local bass lakes worth checking out. If you are new to bass fishing now is the time to try it out. Pound for pound bass are one of the hardest fighting game fish and Quennell Lake just south of Nanaimo is ranked as one of Canadas top 10 bass fishing lakes.  The bass are moving out of the deep water and close to their nesting sites near shore. Crank baits are still working, but your best bet is Zman stick baits or Crush City BLT NEDS in Green Pumpkin or Baby Bass colours.

Thanks to our own Pro Staff Kevin Fleming for the picture of his derby winning 19.5" smallmouth. The derby was the Western Fishing League Boaters Series Bass competition. This derby series is a blast. Check them out if you want to venture into the bass world.

Here in the store this Saturday is our annual Pirates Day sale. This is our biggest sale of the year, with customers normally lining up the day before and sleeping outside. Check out the online flyer to see what's on sale. The day after on Sunday is the online sale for those of you that can't make it on Saturday.

In the salt water lingcod is still very strong with swimbaits and real herring on a spreader bar. The commercial lingcod fishermen are buying Zman swimbaits as they say they hold up well.

Prawning is slowing down a bit and the commercial fleet is about to start fishing. The size of the prawns is still good, but the quantity is a bit less.

Tips up,
