Herring Spawn in Full Swing

As I predicted (first time for everything) we had a big herring spawn around Neck Point on the weekend. I loaded up with our sabiki jigs. Fried herring roe on toast is what we are serving in my household at the moment.

The spawn should continue this week and slowly make its way south. The commercial fleet is done and it's a big spawn coastwide. This bodes very well for all our fisheries this season.

Also large Pacific Cod are being caught by salmon fishermen as they move up from the deep water to feed on herring.

So get out and catch some herring. Or at least take in the spectacle.
