Pretty Fishy

It's pretty fishy out there these days. Thanks to Pete at Coastal Blue Adventures for the very pretty fish picture above this post.

Chinook returns on both sides of the Island are very strong this year. The West Coast looking like the best it's been in years. The fish are moving fairly quickly due to high waters in the rivers, so day to day reports on locations are not the best way to find the fish. Locations hot one day are often cool the next. At least until the next batch of fish move in. So if you haven't landed a fish for a bit, change locations.

The Alberni Sockeye run has also been historic numbers, and Sockey fishing has turned back on with huge waves of fish having moved in. So right now you can catch Chinook and Sockeye in the Alberni Canal. Which is pretty unusual for this point in the season. Squirt hoochies will work for both of them. Run inline dummy flashers to greatly increase your Sockeye catch. For the big Springs try our custom Skinny G "Copper nugget" or the classic bloody nose teaser heads with medium Anchovies. We have a fresh batch of all sizes of Anchovies.

Georgia Straight is absolutely great as well. From Campbell River to Victoria there are plenty of fish to be had. This weekend will be excellent with major bites around lunch and dinner time according to the solar lunar tables. Trolling deep with small nickel green spoons at 150-200ft is still the best bet. Jigging structure with Delta Half Jigs and Current Snipers are also producing a lot of fish, and is tons of fun.
