Salmon Fishing is Spectacular

The Georgia Straight Chinook summer retention season is off to a great start. There are huge schools of fish moving around Five Finger Island and Entrance Island. If you find the bait you will find the fish. Most fishermen are hooking over twenty fish per trip. The only problem was getting past the big schools of undersized (~18") Springs that seem to be all around 140ft. If you troll deeper you will get into a better size of fish.
Both trolling and Jigging are producing fish. Almost all lure types were working this week. But the best lures were Silver Horde Pink Sink, Gibbs G Force Flamin Hans, and Glow Army Truck spoons. Pair these spoons with Herring Aid and Phantom flashers for best results.
For the hard core jiggers out there we have two brand new colours of Gibbs Half Jiggs. A Green Herring Aid version and a pure Chrome version. The Half Jig was invented by a Chandler staff member and we tested them out last weekend. (See photo above) The new ones work just as well as the original colours.
I'm hearing good reports form North Island with lot's of chatter about Sockey from the Port McNeil fishermen. Looking for a confirmed report about this.
The West Coast around Port Renfrew through to Nootka Sound has been very productive lately. Skinny G Super Nugget and Copper Nugget with Raspberry flashers have been best there.
Tips up, Jiggs down.
