Saltwater Season is in Overtime!
Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2022 Sep 29th
The salt water season is going into overtime this year. And as long as the dry weather sticks around we will still have saltwater opportunities. So get out and enjoy the last of the sunshine while you still can. Thanks to Pete at Coastal Blue Adventures for the nice photo above this post.
Entrance and Snake Island are both holding nice amounts of Chinook and increasing numbers of Coho. I'm hearing similar reports from French Creek and the West Coast. Neck Point to Nanoose in shallow water is holding a lot of Coho right now too.
Purple spoons like Purple Haze and Resurrection are what I'm using for Springs, and Maverick pattern spoons for Coho. Halloween spoons in orange and black should also start being effective near the river mouths.
In the rivers I'm told we are seeing record returns of Coho in the Nanaimo and Cowichan. While watching the fish camera on the Stamp I've seen one 'silver bullet' after the other, so that river system is a good bet too.
We just got our brand new in-house designed Super Nugget Ironhead casting spoon from Gibbs. This casting spoon is the perfect colour for Coho in our local rivers.
A reminder that Lingcod and Rockfish close at the end of September in Nanaimo Area 17, and Prawn pulse fishing is in effect in Stuart Channel (17-5, 17-6, 17-9)
