Tuna Season is here and River Season is Coming Soon

The end of summer and early fall can be the best time of year for fisherman. Ocean fishing is still good, but fish are stacking up near the rivers allowing shore fishermen to have greater access.

On the Salmon front there are great reports coming from in front of the Qualicum Rivers, Nile Creek, and Campbell River. There are fish in the rivers with higher water levels. Both the Campbell and Stamp are loaded with Chinook, some early Coho and Steelhead. Check out our expanded fresh water section for all the river gear. Prime Lures casting spoons and Blue Fox spinners are a good bet for in the river.

In the saltchuck fishing is still great, and should continue to be until the rains come. In Nanaimo around Neck Point has been producing good fish. Across the Straight Sandheads has been of fire with some very large fish reported.

The Alberni Canal is also very good at the moment, with plugs and hoochies in blood 'n Bones taking the most fish.

It's also West Coast Tuna season. This year has been excellent so far, and they are a lot closer to shore than the last few years. Currently they are said to be 30 knots off the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This puts them within reach of a lot more fisherman than usual. So if Tuna fishing is on you bucket list this might be your chance. Best lures are Green and Blue Zukers  trolled behind Williamson Birds. We have a great deal on tuna rod and reel combos (also suitable for Halibut)

So get out while the weather is still good.
