Chopped Strand Mat is made with glass fibers in a random pattern held together with a powder or emulsion binding agent. Will produce good modulus (stiffness) when used with core materials or as part of thicker laminates. However, on its own it offers relatively week tensile strength due to short fiber length and random orientation. Uses: Easy to wet out and is often used alternatively with heavier fiberglass materials such as woven roving, to improve glass to resin ratio, reduce print through in molding and improve overall adhesion between layers.
