Beat The Heat, Go Fishing

Salmon fishing is continuing to be great all around Vancouver Island. And in my opinion the best way to beat the heat is get out on the water.
West Coast areas are all reporting good Chinook, Coho and Halibut fishing. Head offshore for a mixed bag of species, or stay in the Sounds for Chinook. It hasn't been a big squid year, so hootchies aren't as effective as usual. Instead try small Herring Aid plugs fished shallow and way back from the boat in the Sounds. Offshore of Ucluelet/Tofino and Port Renfrew run 3 inch green and silver spoons such as Bob Marley or Trash Can.
On the East side of Vancouver Island basically all of Georgia Straight is unbelievably good right now. Chinook numbers are very high and everybody should be getting fish. If you aren't catching change location until you mark bait or fish. Nanaimo has loads of fish, although it can be difficult to get through all the undersized ones. Large Looney spoons fished with a dummy flasher will avoid some of the little guys. But best spoon overall is our custom made Silver Horde Naked Herring Aid AKA Chandler 2019 Custom 2019 #1. Jigging structure is still a great option if you want to play a lot of fish. Shimano Colt/Current Snipers and Half Jigs are your best bet for jigging.
French Creek and Sangster Island are reporting a larger class of fish. Purple plugs and Purple Haze hoochies seem to be the hot lure there.
