Cold Water Hot Trout Fishing

Trout fishing is heating up around the Island. While the weather and the water may be cold the fishing is good. In fact our cold spring and slow snow melt is keeping the local lake waters cold and clear. While this is slowing the Bass season down a bit, trout fishing is great. The Fresh Water Society of BC has been busily stocking many of our lakes with catchable sized trout. We joined them and Fishing For Fun Society at Colliery dam last Saturday for a trout release and fishing lessons for kids. It was a blast. If you know anyone with kids that want to learn about fishing check out Fishing For Funs upcoming events.
Nanaimo lakes are producing nice cutthroats. See the picture accompanying this post. Gibbs Mini G 2g spoons in Paddy Wagon have been working well. The usual power bait and worms under bobbers will also get the job done.
In the store our fresh water section is expanding, and we now carry everything a trout, bass or steelhead fisherman could need.
In the salt chuck Lingcod and Halibut fishing is still going strong. Try slowly trolling our Lighthouse Electronic Hoochies along the bottom to target halibut. I always add some scent like Butt Juice or Bloody Tuna when doing this.
Also with Sockeye season about a month away it's time to start gearing up. With slow supply chains for the last couple years, don't wait if you need any tackle.
