Fish & Chips Season

After a blustery and cold spring it looks like decent weather for fishing is on the way. Halibut fishing on the West Coast of the Island has been picking up. Sooke, Ucluelet and Tofino fishermen are all doing well. As usual anchoring with a big chum bag is popular. If you need an anchoring system build by us get in touch with Austin. Remember safety is the priority when anchoring in deep water. Alternatively a fisherman can just drop a downrigger ball and a big chum sack to slow your drift enough to fish halibut. Trolling for hali is also very effective, especially if you aren't sure where to jig them. This can be done with large swimbaits, big hoochies, spoons or possibly best of all with giant spin 'n glows. Rite Angle makes a great spin 'n glow setup. Click the blue link to see it.
Nootka and Barkley sound fishermen are reporting excellent Spring Salmon fishing. The fish are averaging 12-14lbs and are feeding actively. Big Eye spoons Barley Beast and Skinny G Spring Roll have been working well. Fire cracker herring has also been getting the job done. We have a decent stock of these little guys. We don't ship frozen bait, so if you need some you have to come to the store.
Rumor has it that the first early run of Sockey is heading up the Somas River in Alberni right now. The Sockey forecast for the year is supposed to be pretty good, so get your sockeye tackle squared away soon.
And make sure to have your rock fish descender on board for all salt water fishing trips.
Tips up,
