Happy Canada Day!

The winds look great in Georgia Straight for this Canada Day long weekend. It will be a perfect weekend to get out on the water. Chinook fishing continues to be excellent around Nanaimo. The fish are getting a bit shallower, with many around 140ft. Try trolling the 200ft contour line just North of Five Finger Island with a Green Herring Aid Skinny G. There are a few hatchery Coho starting to show, so if you are looking for a fish for a Canada Day BBQ troll a Silver Horde Coho Killer in Silver Knight Blue Splatter pattern.

Crabbing is picking up with decent catches of Dungeness crabs being reported around Jack/Duke Point area off the Nanaimo estuary. Use Yum Yum canned crab bait for best results. It’s a good, clean tuna-based bait made here in Nanaimo.

On the West Coast, Chinook fishing has been very consistent. Lots of 15lb fish being taken in Barkley and Nootka Sounds. We finally have anchovies in stock! Come get them while they last. Then rig them in Bloody Nose or Purple Nuclear Booger for West Coast Chinook.

Alberni Sockeye is going strong. Although some days are slow and some hot, as per usual. There is a lot more bigger five year old fish this year.
