Herring Season has Arrived
Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2023 Mar 4th
Herring season has arrived in Georgia Straight! So get you sabiki jigs and dip nets and head out. There hasn't been any beach spawns yet, but it will happen soon. Look for large concentrations of eagles and sealions if you want to catch a spawn. Herring make great bait, and their roe is my favorite spring meal. If you spot a beach spawn please let me know via email me at steve@harbouchandler.ca.
Chinook fishing has been very good with fish in much shallower water and closer to shore than typical for this time of year. Entrance Island has been producing excellent catches, with even some shallow enough to be caught on jigs. The best lures for trolling has been Northern King spoons in BC Chovy , and Cop Cruiser. These spoons are new to me, and have the best glow I have ever seen in a salmon lure.
They are Canadian made with American components by the famous Thompson-Pallister company and are half the cost of my other favorite brand of spoons.
Prawn season is coming soon. Remember that the rules have changed for prawn and crab floats, effective April 1st. All prawn buoys must be round Scotchman style, 12 inch or bigger. And all crab must be bullet shaped.
Tips up,
