Despite the cool temperatures Bass fishing is hot in Vancouver Island Lakes. Around Nanaimo Quennell Lake is your best bet; but many other lakes hold populations of Bass. The best lures are Z Man Stick Baits in Hot Craw on a Ned Rig Jig. However the Small Mouth Bass in the picture with this post was caught on a real worm under a bobber on a little kids rod. My daughter and I were fishing for Pumpkin Seed Fish. The unattended rod (it was snack time) suddenly corked over and the fish started taking line. It was a good fight on such a light setup.

Trout fishing was also very good that day with several nice Cutthroat being caught from the same location. Powerbait was the most successful lure for the trout.

In the saltchuck, Chinook fishing continues to be great all over Georgia Straight. Almost everyone is catching multiple fish in the 15 pound range. If you aren't getting fish swing by the store and ask for our help. Top lures have been Gibbs Skinny G in Trailhead and No Bananas paired with Green Phantom flasher. The fish have gotten a bit shallower; hanging around 140ft has been very productive all week.

In the Alberni Canal the Sockey fishing is steady. The rain hasn't really slowed them down too much. Normally this weather is not good for the Sockeye bite, but this year for whatever reason it is still decent. Michael Bait Squirt Hoochies on and 18" leader behind our custom designed Blue Chrome Flasher will work for these tasty small Salmon.

So whatever you are fishing for this weekend, get out and have a good time. And happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. See you at the dock.

tips up,
