It's Winter Spring Fishing Time!

Fishing for feeder Chinook (AKA Winter Springs) has really picked up over the last week in the Nanaimo area. I have excellent reports from Entrance Island, Five Finger Island and the Flat Tops. The size of the fish has improved as well, with fish between 8-13lb being caught. The best lures have been small spoons like Skinny G's in Bon Chovy and Trailhead. Or another top combo is Koho Kings in Glow Cop car with a West Coast Tackle Illuminate Flasher. The Illuminate has some of the best glow I have seen in a flasher.
There are still great reports coming in from French Creek and Comox, as well as South of us near Ladysmith. They are doing the best with Northern King spoons in Blue Glow Herring Aid, behind Hot Spot White Glow Flashers.
In the lakes the Cowichan Lake fishermen are continuing to report great cutthroat fishing. The top lure of the week was Silver Horde Silver Knight Yellow Tail spoon. Which is my favorite salmon spoon, so it's interesting to hear it's good in the lakes.
It has been a banner week for Steelhead fishing in the Stamp. Chrome winter fish have been really on the bite (for steelhead that is) Top lures have been 14mm BnR Soft Beads in Mottled Red and 1/8oz Arojig Twiching Jigs in Ceris under a float.
Thanks to Hot Rods for the nice photo above this report. That is a prime Winter Spring caught this week off Gabriola Island on a Silver Horde 3.5" Pink Sink spoon.
