Jumbo Prawns

The spring prawning season has kicked off with lot's of full traps and happy prawn fishermen. There have been good reports from both sides of the Island. Nanaimo and the mid Island area seems to have good numbers of extra large prawns this year. We just received our shipment of our popular Sidewind Buoys. These cost effective floats come in many colours to help you identify your gear. They also are less pricey than many other brands, but work well for their intended task. We stocked up as many Bauer prawn traps as possible, but expect supply issues in the coming months. So get the gear you need now, before things sell out in the summer.

Equally positive Prawning reports are coming in from the Alberni Canal. My father got his limit for two people in one short soak of two traps.

Lingcod is open already on the West Coast so drop a line if you're over there. As usual swim baits are by far the best lure for Lings. Remember not to jig a swim bait. Just hold it in position and let the current move it's tail until you get a hit. Have a quality gaff like a West Coast Thumper ready, as Lings can be hard on nets.
