Juneuary Fishing Report

With the soggy weather keeping some boats at the dock, there's a lot of fish out there for those that do brave the rain. I should point out that we carry a wide range of the best rain gear, including Simms Fishing products. Simms gear is top quality and made for fishermen. I love my new Simms Jacket, and their Fish Whistle is a critical item for a successful trip.
Chinook fishing continues to be excellent this season. The Georgia Straight is the best for catch and release as there are huge amounts of large Chinook. Catching 25 legal-sized fish is not unusual for average fishermen these days. It truly is the best Chinook fishing since the early 1990s. For Chinook, Goldstar Pink Sink and Killy Magee spoons are working the best.
Barkley Sound is really picking up with Chinook moving into the inner Sound. The fish are already passing Pill and Chup Point, with those locations being good places to fish right now. To increase your chances of bringing on the bite, Skinny G Outfitter and Bon Chovy spoons have been catching the most fish in this area. In addition, Gold Herring Aid flashers would be my choice for fishing Chinook in the Sound right now. Also, in Barkley Sound, Halibut and many other species of ground fish are showing up in good numbers.
The Sockeye are all the way into the Canal with fish being caught right up to China Creek. Unfortunately, with the rain they are not staying and are instead just heading for the river.
Around Nanaimo, Lingcod fishing is still the main target if you want to take home dinner. My best recommendation for Lingcod are the Lighthouse Max Shad Derby Winner swimbaits has been the best lure lately.
Tips up,
