Mid-February Report

Thrasher Rock area was on fire for spring salmon for the first part of this week. The quote I heard from a local guide was "I didn't go 10 minutes without a fish. Three doubleheaders" Best depths have been a bit shallower at 160-220 feet. Best lures were Lemon Lime and Cookies and Cream spoons.

Tent island and area are still very productive for spring salmon. Also prawning is excellent and open there for the last half of the month. Prawning is still closed around Nanaimo despite the healthy populations building up in the area. When it finally re-opens it will be exceptional.

There has been lots of bait around Gabriola Island, and the herring numbers continue to build up as they get ready for the spawn.

Local lakes are starting to warm up with trout fishing is heating up as well. For lake trolling try silver J Plugs and Mini G Spoons in Trap Shack or Gold Nugget or wedding bands. And steelhead fishing in Island rivers is still top notch.

Tips up,

Steve
