Prawns and Halibut Time!

With the weather for the last week I don't have very many reports from local fishermen. Between the wind, snow and hail not too many people have ventured out. If you have been out I'm always looking for a current report. Send them to steve@harbourchandler.ca
The few prawning reports I have seen continue to be excellent. Both in Georgia Straight and the West Coast. One hot tip to catch more prawns is to crush up some of your prawn pellets. The more bait and scent drifting down current, the more prawns you will catch. Add a can of Yum Yum Bait for a massive oily scent cloud. It's made in Nanaimo with fresh tuna bellies and oil. It works better than cat food and is not as gross as the canned cat food we used to all use..
This weekend should be a good one to go for Halibut if the weather window holds. Sooke and Ucluelet seem to be the hotspots for Halibut lately. Berkley Powerbait and white swimbaits are producing nicely. If you need a proper halibut anchoring system call the store to consult Austin about having a custom one made.
Bamfield seems to be having a good start to the West coast lingcod season. Hang a left out of the harbour and try the points and bays between Bamfield and Cape Beale. Swimbaits in orange, red and black have been the best for shallow lingcod.
