Prawns make the best Valentine Present

Salmon fishing around Gabriola Island is still very good, but the fish are more spread out. Less are holding at the "Money Hole" North East of Entrance Island lighthouse. They are moving with the bait. Large mature herring are starting to show up in anticipation of the herring spawn which should occur in a few weeks. Therefore logically larger spoons and plugs should be the best lure right now. However, fishing being fishing; plugs have stopped working and small chrome spoon have been best this week. 3-3.5" Killy Magee and Maverick spoons would be my choice for these conditions. I pair Maverick with a CB55 flasher as one of my favorite setups.
South from Tent Island to Saltspring Island seems to be the hot area lately. Salmon fishing and Prawning have been very good. Kitchen Sink spoons and splatter-back hootchies have produced the most fish.
In the freshwater, Island rivers are producing nice steelhead. Best lures have been BNR soft beads and Western Fishing Operations worms in various colours.
The cutthroat trout are spawning in local lakes. Long and Diver lake both hold surprisingly large fish accessible from shore.
