Salmon Prime Time is Here!

We are into the prime time for salmon fishing all around the coast.
Coho fishing is on fire in Georgia Straight. These greedy salmon are gaining around a pound a day and it's only a matter of time until we start seeing 10lb fish coming in. Jigging has started to pick up with the best lure being Clarkspoon Pogie jigs in black or blue. Incidentally this was my top jig last season with Lil' Nib The Strussi a close second.
Trolling is also very effective with Skinny G Silver Phantom being the best lure of the week taking both Chinook and Coho.
It has been confirmed that there are Pink salmon also showing up in the mid Island area. This is early for them but multiple fishermen have caught some. There are also some reports of Chum in the French Creek area. This is also very early for them. Chum are possibly the hardest fighting salmon so getting one in the salt water is an absolute blast.
In Alberni the Sockeye fishing is still going strong with larger than average fish coming in. Multiple reports of 8-9lb fish being taken. As always pink hoochies and dummy flashers such as the Crucifish are a must.
On the West side the Chinook are picking up with many fish passing by the outer Islands and Points on their way South. I'm hearing about a lot of very large Chinook on the West side this year. Lot's of Tyee sized. Best lure is still Flashflys in Everglow Ghost pattern.
So everything looks like we are entering into our prime salmon fishing time with many opportunities to be had.
