Time to Fill Your License
Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2022 Mar 10th
With the good weather it's time to gear up and get out on the water. We likely only have until the end of the month to retain Chinook in Georgia straight. Plus we are still on last seasons license until March 31st. So now is a great opportunity to fill up any empty spots on your yearly Chinook retention.
Sidney and Salt Spring Island are reporting good amounts of fish, but a bit slower than last week. Storm Sport Fishing is still finding beautiful early season Chinook. (see Picture above this report) Harbour Chandler custom designed spoon Panic Attack paired with Green Phantom flasher has been the most successful setup in that area.
Nanaimo and French Creek are holding lot's of good sized Chinook, but the herring are in so thick that it's still a bit hard to get your gear noticed. Trolling firecracker herring (Available in Store only) in counter rotating glow chartreuse teaser heads have been working.
This years herring spawn is well underway. With phenomenal spawns off Comox Harbour and around Denman Island.
The spawn is slowly working it's way south towards Nanaimo, with the herring jiggers and casting net fishermen doing incredibly well of Lantzville. I'm hoping to catch a beach spawn around Neck Point so if you hear about one please email me.
Opening season for Nanaimo Prawning should be April 1st. We are currently stocked up with real Island made Bauer Prawn traps. If you need them get them while they are still available.
If you have a current fishing report or photo you'd like to share. Please email steve@harbourchandler.ca
