Increased Chinook Opportunities

Chinook and Coho fishing continues to be very good. Also in most areas the slot size has been removed and the daily limit upped to two fish. (Always check you local regulations prior to fishing).
I just came back from a tour of Georgia Straight including Comox, Powel River and Texada Island and saw great fishing everywhere. Each marina I checked in at had guy cleaning fish.
There were Coho schooling around all sorts of unusual places including right in close to beaches without streams. These fish appeared to be on the hunt for feed, so right now looks like an excellent time for shore fishermen.
I did a little jigging and got the nice 78cm Spring 30ft down on a Clarkspoon Stick Jig. It was a female and the I made Salmon Ikura (Japanease Caviar) with the roe. Check out this months edition of Island Fisherman Magazine for my recipe.
Around Nanaimo Entrance Island has been the best location for Chinook and Coho. They are everywhere from 200ft to 20ft. Best lures have been small spoons like Skinny G's in Bon Chovy and Killy Magee colours. Paired with purple onion flashers.
There is a massive school of Pink salmon holding off Neck Point and Five Finger Island. Sockeye hoochies and Pink Sink spoons with work for them. Pair with Green Mirror or Fancie Glancie flashers.
On the West side of the Island guys are heading offshore for Tuna. They are currently 50knt off Bamfield and Ucluelet. It's looking like a good season for this fishery as well.
The river fishing has started with a ridiculous amount of Chinook pushing up the Stamp. All the Northern rivers on the East side of the Island are doing well. Although more rain is needed on this side of the Island to really get this fishery going.
