Salt Water Still Going, Rivers Heating up!

Our salt water salmon season is still going strong, and the river fishing season is heating up. The Chinook fishing should continue until we get some sustained rain but the Coho will remain in the salt for a while after.

There are still large Chinook holding along Entrance Island reef, and there should be more around Hudson Rocks as that is normal for this time of year, but I haven't had that confirmed yet.

There are lot's of small immature fish showing up so larger gear is an asset at this time of year. PlugsYakama SpinFish and larger Loony Spoons will help you avoid this little guys and target bigger fish.

French Creek is reporting large Springs including white springs around the humps. Plugs and Purple Haze hoochies and flashers will work.

Port Renfrew is reporting an excellent Coho run with large amounts of mid-sized fish already there. The big hook nose Northern Coho have yet to arrive but should be there any day now. The bite seems very predictable following the solar lunar tables, with best lures being Coho Killers in Lucky Charm and chrome blueKrippled KC spoons are also producing nice fish in this areas.

Sooke is also reporting similar good Coho numbers with Yellow Tail Coho Killers being the top lure.

In the rivers things are good farther North and West where there is more water. The Stamp is absolutely loaded with fish. The photo with this post was a silver bullet Coho caught on a Vedder Soft Bead above Stamp falls.

Tips Up,

Steve
