River Fishing Time!

It was cooled off, the rains have started so it's now river fishing time! We now stock all the gear and accessories for freshwater fishing. Including our own custom center pin reels and Simms waders

The Campbell and Quinsam are currently packed with fish, as is the Stamp. BNR Soft beads and casting spoons such as our custom Koho Super nugget have been working well.

Fishing on the Big Qualicum is great for Springs, Coho and Pinks right now. Fishermen are allowed to retain two Chinook for the first time in many years. Daily limit for clipped Coho and all Pinks is four. (Always check current regulations before fishing. Region 1 - Vancouver Island: Recreational salmon fishing limits, openings and closures | Pacific Region | Fisheries and Oceans Canada (dfo-mpo.gc.ca)

Best lures are Mepps flying C spinners in red and pink, or Prime Lure spinners in the same colours. For the Coho Prime Lures chartreus/brass spoons have been the most productive.

The steelhead season has started with a bang with excellent reports coming in to all the usual watersheds. I've received some incredible catch reports from reliable sources. West Coast systems in particular are worth paying attention to just now.

The ocean fishing is still good for the next little while. The Coho fishing is still excellent out around Entance Island, and there are still some big Chinook in the same area. Rock-cod and Ling close at the end of the month, so if you want to get out for white meat do it now.

Tips up,
