Coho Are Everywhere!

This season continues to be the best one we've had for Coho for decades. River fishing for them has really picked up in the normal locations, while ocean Coho are still abundant. This coming weekend looks like it will be nice and sunny so it should be a great time to take the boat out, or fish the creek mouths and shorelines.

In the Rivers Big Qualicum and the Stamp are excellent locations, as are every gravel beach with a creek or river all up the inside of the Island. Gold Chartreuse casting spoons and orange or blue spinners have been consistent, and Twiching Jigs have started to work and are fun to fish.

In the salt water Port Renfrew and Nanaimo around Five fingers are both very hot right now. There are large Coho holding all around the Fingers and Hudson Rocks. Blue Chrome Coho Killers with Blue Mirror flashers are doing the best. There are enough fish that you can go flasher free for improved fights, but you will hook more with a flasher.

There are still large Chinook holding Shallow at 60ft between Hudson Rocks and Pipers Lagoon. Large slow plugs, SpinFish and 5" Looney spoons will work.

Comox and North have lots of small Chinook moving in so it is hard to get past them to find bigger fish. But if you do get past them there are some large Coho in the mix.

Tips up.
