Trout for Christmas!

With the break in the weather it's a great time to get out on our local lakes for some mid-winter trout fishing. And if possible take a kid or two and introduce them to the simple fun of shore fishing for trout. With light  gear this is a great low stress way to start a future fisherman out.

 All local lakes are producing well, so just choose the one closest to you. I'm hearing great reports from Long Lake in Nanaimo and Fuller Lake in Chemainus. These are stocked lakes so there are lots of fish, with Fuller having the better size class as it holds the brood stock for the stocking program. Both are very assessable with fishing from public docks, shore and boat launches.

Blue Fox spinners and Unreel soft beads have been working well. Also fly fishing or trolling from a dingy can be done. But just a worm or Power Bait under a bobber will do the trick. And this may be the best way to get kids started with when they aren't able to cast yet.
