Happy New Year!

The new year is off to a great start for salmon fishermen (and fisherwomen too!)
The Chinook fishing continues to be far better than most winters for both size and quantity. The Coho are also absolutely thick out there, and while closed right now this bodes well for later in the season. One fishermen told me today that he was having trouble getting his gear past them and down to the Chinook. The Chinook are continuing to be surprisingly shallow in many areas. I'm starting to hear excellent reports from the Five Finger Island area. So if you don't want a long run out to Entrance or Gabriola try the 200-400 ft contour line between Five Finger, Hudson Rocks and Neck Point. Best lure was a 4" Herring Aid Looney Spoon paired with a Green Glow Flasher and our custom Blue Glow Northern King spoon. Entrance and Gabriola are also producing nice fish on the bottom around 200-230 ft down.
French Creek is starting to see a better class of fish although there are still many undersized ones to get past. Yakima Spinfish have been taking the bigger fish along with anchovies.
Ladysmith and Cowichan fishermen are also doing very well for nice keeper sized Springs.
I should also point out that with the cold weather coming we do stock ice fishing rods and really nice USB rechargeable hand warmers. I use the handwarmers regularly and love them.
And a big thanks to Kurt Feltrin for the fishing report and great photo above. Thats a beautiful winter spring!
