Deep Freeze Fishing

Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2024 Jan 18th

While the weather has been pretty miserable for the last couple weeks some hardy fishermen are still getting out. I haven't had as many recent reports but the few coming in are similar to last week. The best locations seem to Entrance Island.  Blue, green or chartreus hoochies trolled at 180-220 out produced everything else. The fish here are consistently larger than normal for this time of year.

I'm interested to find out if there are still Chinook in close to Five Fingers and Neck Point. So I recomend skipping work and checking it out for me.

Ladysmith area fishermen are getting a lot of fish but most are currently undersized. Although that's only from one report, there may well be some bigger fish around. Rhys Davis Glow Green Anchovy Teasers and small Herring Aid spoons worked well in this area.

Harbour chandler staff member Steph did try ice fishing Barsby Lake during the cold snap last week. He didn't catch anything, but he also didn't die, so I'd call that a win.

Here in the store we are gearing up for the Vancouver Boat show, Jan 31-Feb 4. If you are in Vancouver come by and check out our booth, or if you can't make it come by the store and we will have the deals here too.

Thanks to Dave Roberts for this weeks picture and his report. He limited out on good sized Chinook. If you have a report or picture please email me at the address below.
