River Time!!

Local rivers and lakes are warmed up and we are in our prime time for trout and bass. All local lakes are reporting excellent cutthroat catches. Lake Cowichan has been producing some real monsters caught trolling small plugs or casting spinners. We have finally received out shipment of Tomic plugs including small 3 and 4 inchers. If you are a plug guy get them while supplies last. We also have J-plugs and some 2" Lymans, both of which are perfect for the lakes.
Bass has really picked up as they move from deep water into their nesting areas. Crank baits and chatter baits are working well.
In the salt water prawning is continuing to be great, with bigger than normal prawns being taken in most locations. We have a fresh shipment of made in Victoria Bauer traps. These are the most effective traps we know of. So now is the time to get out before the commercial season starts. Pro- tip, always weight your traps down and run a line weight about 20 feet up the line from your second trap. This prevents the float from jiggling the trap, and is critical as prawns hate movement.
Chinook fishing is still great. Larger fish are coming from the Tent Island area, which is open for one hatchery fish. A lot of fish are being taken on anchovies with UV teaser heads, although small spoons are working close to shore. The baby herring are leaving the bays so in tight with small gear will produce.
