Record Coho Year!!!

It is turning out to be a record Coho year. I am getting excellent reports from everywhere in Georgia Straight. Basically from Campbell River down to the South end of the Island most fishermen are getting their limit. Many areas are also producing bigger than normal fish as well. The south end of Gabriola is seeing an average of 6-8lb which is great for Coho at this time of year. Best lures have been watermelon Coho Killers and Silver Trout Yakama SpinFish

Five Fingers area is also great with huge numbers of Coho and Springs. Local hot rod Clyde had over 30 good Coho in under 3hrs. See photo above. They were 60-100' down and caught on watermelon spoons and the new Gibbs Scorpion spoons.

The Coho continue to hold away from the bottom and structure. If you fish the bottom or close to rocks you will just catch Chinook. So if you want to catch and release fish fish in tight that's fine, but if you want Coho get out in 200-300ft of water and troll small spoons around 80ft down.

Sockeye is heating up in Alberni, both in the salt-chuck and in the river. Now is the time to head to Alberni if you want to put some fish in the freezer. Remember for Sockeye to run a dummy flasher or in-line daisy chain flasher rig. Sockeye love to follow flashers so more is better. And as always pink squirt hoochies are your main Sockeye lure.

I need more info from the west coast, so if you are heading there give me a email.
