Plugs For Coho?

In Georgia Straight a the top Coho lure for the week was a bit of a surprise. It was a small J Plug called Black Ladder AKA the skeleton plug. It was working around Five Fingers and Entrance Island for bigger Coho. It makes me wonder if 3-4" Tomics might also work for targeting larger Coho.

There are still loads of Springs around so that bodes well for when they open up They are holding along the bottom and close to structure. They guys jigging are mostly getting these Springs with a few Coho in the mix.

There have also been a few more Pinks reported around Five Fingers with the Coho. This is a reminder to always be able to I.D. your catch as sometimes you won't get the spices you are expecting.

On the West Coast it's started to heat up with Lure Jensen Everglow Ghost Flashflys and West Coast Tackle flashers Black Beauty dominating the lure choices. The guides are buying us out of them. With the squid starting to show up from Renfrew to Tofino The Ghost will continue to be a good choice of lure for a while.

Halibut fishing has also been good, with Berkley Power Bait being the top lure. Thanks to HC employee Doobie for the report and picture above. He loaded up of salmon, halibut and lingcod. He's working in the store on Saturdays if you want to pick his brain for fishing advice.

Sockeye in Alberni have been great this year, but I'd except it to slow down a bit with the rain we just had. Wait for dryer weather if you can.

On an odd note I had a customer say they caught and ate a Wolf Eel a while back. Just don't do that, they are permanently closed.  And always check your local fishing regs before taking a fish.
