Countdown for Chinook Opening!!

The countdown is on for Chinook opening day. We expect DFO to open Chinook on the 15th of July. As always check the regulations prior to fishing. We have excellent numbers of Chinook in Georgia Straight right now. The Coho fishermen have been having trouble getting past them to get their Coho. Jigging Delta Half Jigs in Herring Aid and trolling Cookies and Cream spoons have been the most effective lures around Nanaimo.

Up in French Creek area UV white hoochies and our custom chrome blue flasher have proven effective.

On the west Coast the new West Coast Tackle 24oz Glow Herring Aid Swim Bait is crushing halibut. It has great glow and the heavier weight to keep it down. I like to troll these along the flats with my downrigger just like trolling for salmon. This works well for covering territory until you find your own halibut hole.

Salmon are just starting to move into the sounds, but offshore and the surf line is still best. There are big Chinook being taken, with Everglow Ghost Flashfly being the top lure.

In the fresh water Bass fishing is great right now. Top water lures are working the best. Berkley Choppos in Bone and Maverick patterns are working very well. The other winning lure is a Rapala Popper in Yellow Perch colour.
