Peak Fishing Time!

We are now reaching peak fishing time! On the West Coast the Halibut fishing is still going strong. Get your white meat while you can. A white Berkley Power Bait on a lead head, or a basic herring off a spreader bar will work.

The big Chinook are moving into the inner parts of Nootka and Barkley Sounds while in Alberni the Sockeye are still around in big numbers for a bit longer. The Chinook are hitting on small silver or purple needlefish patterns like Silver Horde Trash Can or Gibbs Skinny G Purple Phantom spoons.

Off Nanaimo and Georgia Straight in the last week Coho fishing has been great. They are still moving around in the mid-water at 60-90ft. Try trolling blue hoochies or a little blue Flash Fly 3ft behind the flasher. Or use an Apex in Herring Aid pattern 5ft behind a Blue Magoo flasher.

Locally Chinook has been hit and miss, with Entrance Island and Thrasher rock being better than the Fingers. It will pick up again soon, as here are lots making their way down from the North. They are currently off Qualicum, so French Creek area should be hot this weekend.

In the bigger lakes trolling plugs like a Skunk Pattern 2” Yakima SpinFish is producing for the trout fisherman. And with the warm weather Bass fishing is in hi-gear! South Vancouver Island has some of the best bass fishing in Canada. There are big bass in almost all the smaller lakes in our area, and they are often very accessible to the public. Right now, casting out top water poppers like X-Rap Yellow Perch is working well. Or if you are looking for a big one in one try casting 5” Berkley Nessie Rainbow trout pattern glide bait.
