Head West!

The West Coast is absolutely on fire for Chinook and Halibut. Barkley and Nootka sound are the places to be right now if you can get out there. Northern King spoons in Blue Glow and HC Custom 602 are taking the big Tyee. The top flashers have been Red Jelly and Fancie Glancie.
The new Westcoast Tackle Hyper Glow Octopus have proven themselves for halibut. Run these guys on there own, with bait or off a spreader bar. They really work. Or troll Turd Hoochies right off the bottom and get Chinook and Halibut at the same time.
Around Nanaimo we are still seeing mixed reports. Some guys are having great trips and some say it's slow. Five Fingers is defiantly a bit slow but I'm hearing great reports from Entrance, Thrasher and Porlier Pass. Snake Island is also pretty good. It's been more of a dawn and dusk bite with dusk being better. All of a sudden green Tomic Plugs are working for the bigger Chinook and as always silver Coho Killers for Coho and smaller Chinook.
The Coho fishing is still going strong but as mentioned last week, for the Springs you need to watch the solar luner tables or fish the dawn/dusk bite.
To the North the Campbell River area is loaded with Pink Salmon. If you want a very easy and accessible opportunity to catch salmon try the Campbell or Eve rivers. Small pink casting lures like L'il Nib Humpy Special or Pink Wicked Lure Spinners will catch you your limit.
Thanks to Sydney, Austin and the Brown-Johns for the photo of a nice Spring caught off Gabriola on a plug this week.
