Winter Bass?!
Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2024 Nov 28th
Here on Vancouver Island winter bass fishing is a thing! So if you are looking for a fun easy winter fishing option consider bass. They are in deeper water so a boat helps, but some lakes are still fishable from shore. The fish are a little bit less active, so slower retrieves and smaller gear will work best. Top lures have been fineness jigs like Crush City Bubblegum Creepers and Z Man Elaztech Finesse TRD's in The Deal pattern.
Also in the lakes trolling for cutthroat has been very good. Sproat and Cowichan are both excellent right now. Pink apex style lures like the TKO will work for these fish. Or better still try rainbow trout pattern Tomic plugs dragged well back from the boat. We have just received a large order of all sizes of Tomic plugs, including many lake trolling sized ones. They have been hard to get for a few years now so we are lucky to have a full order of them. They are not all on the website yet, but are available in store.
Power bait under a bobber, either from a boat or from shore is also a consistent bait for all trout.
In the salt water I haven't heard much lately. The foul weather is keeping most boats at the dock. So if anyone gets out in the near future please email me a report at the email below.
Also a heads up this Friday and Saturday is our Black Friday sale.
