Bonking Time!!!

2021 Jul 17th

Chinook retention season has started with a bang. Chinook opened in Area 17 on July 15th. With possession of one Chinook in a slot size between 62-80 cms. Which means anything over about 17 pounds has to go back. Luckily there are lots of fish in that size range in the Georgia Straight right now.

Most guys who braved the winds got their fish once they found the bait. The North East corner of 5-Finger Island produced most of the fish. Big Eye spoons in green/chrome and Silver Horde spoons in Yellow Tail worked the best. Jigging was working with half jigs and Lil’ Nibs, but the wind made jigging a challenge.

There are Coho starting to show. Two hatcheries are allowed per day. TKO apex style spoons in pink and red are effective for them.

We also just got a new black blade Super Herring Aid flasher. It looks great, and I'm buying one today.

A heads up to remember your rockfish decenter when doing any saltwater fishing. The current fine for not having one is $750.

Prawning has been picking up, but crabbing is hit and miss.

Tips up,
