Fall Coho - The Harbour Chandler

Fall Coho

2018 Sep 2nd

The air is starting to feel crisp and the Coho (and Chinook) are starting to stack up off our local rivers. While its a little quiet out in the deeper salt water, the in-shore fisheries is good. French Creek is reporting lots of nice big Coho, and a decent amount of large springs. Sockeye fishing is still very good off Sandheads, and near Texada island. Reports from the Port Hardy area indicate lots more are still on their way. They are occasionally sweeping in close to Gabriola Island, but generally you have to go out and meet them half way across the Straight. The word from Alberni is lots of very large springs in the Canal and excellent fishing  out in the Sound. (See pic above of 16lb chrome Chinook caught mid morning near Fleming Island) Prawning is good around Nanaimo, and crabbing is finally starting to get decent again. I've had a poor year overall for crab. Also we have finally received the long awaited herring aid flashers and teaser heads. They look great, and should be a winning combination. Tips up, Steve vavrik
