Feeder Springs and Herring
2019 Mar 4th
This years herring spawn is fast approaching, and our local feeder Springs are fattening up on them. The salmon are moving around with the bait, so if you are not getting hits where you are, change location. Nice sized fish are being taken from Entrance Island, Thrasher Rock and Polier Pass. French Creek and the Southern tip of Lesquiti Island are also producing well.
Chartreuse spoons, T-Rex hootchies, and Herring Aid teaser heads have been working the best. Pair with Salty dog flashers or any glow flasher.
If anyone spots a active herring spawn feel free to call the store and let me know. I want my fix of herring eggs for the season. For more herring info check out my article in the March edition of Island Fisherman magazine.
Prawning is still super hot around Nanaimo. and also a heads up that halibut is now open.
And finally props to Mark from the Parksville Boathouse for coming to the aid of a Sinking vessel off French Creek yesterday. Its a good reminder to keep your radio on Channel 16, and carry spare life jackets just in case.
Tips up,
