More Big Fish Inbound!

Nanaimo Chinook and Coho fishing is still going strong. Chinook trolling around Five Finger Island has been great. Keep the gear around 140ft  and follow the 400ft contour line North paralleling the shore.  Best lures have been Northern King spoons in BC Chovy colours and Skinny G's in Irish Cream. Pair with Jellyfish Sourpuss or  Green Footloose flashers.

The Coho have mostly moved to the Entrance Island reef. Jigging in the shallows or near bait will quickly produce fish.  If you really want to have fun, take a light spin casting set up and small jigs. This is a great way to introduce kids or anyone to salmon fishing, as the action is very fast and exciting. Delta Half Jigs and the goofy little Clarkspoon Pogie will produce fish. For trolling Coho stick to small Coho Killers spoons in UV Silver Knight White Dots with a Brain Freeze flasher.

Over the long weekend, some of the Harbour Chandler staff went and did some fishing research out of Port Hardy.

Multiple Tyee where caught and released with one 34lb retained as it looked like it wouldn't survive being released. Pictured above.

Most fish where caught on our own custom designed Northern King spoon Blue Glow and Blue Glow Cop Cruiser. These spoons where designed by Chandler staff in collaboration with Northern Tackle. A Canadian Brand whose heritage includes Lenn Thompson lures and the Pallister family. Both iconic names in the Canadian Tackle industry. Northern Tackle spoons are made in Canada with Canadian and American materials only. They are well made and effective, and we are happy to be supporting Canadian Manufacturing.

Barkley Sound is still super hot, with large fish moving in as far as Poets Nook at the time of writing. The little bit of rain should get them moving into the Canal itself by the weekend. The bait is still small so 3.5" spoons in Party Girl pattern, and Okie Glow Red Mist teaser heads have been catching the most fish. Small sardines (pilchards) have been working in place of anchovies. UV Purple hoochies with Purple Onion flashers have also been getting a lot of fish.

I haven't heard much from Nootka for a bit. If you have a current report or photo from there (or anywhere) please email me.

Tips up,
