Prawning Time!!

Posted by Steve Vavrik on 2024 Apr 5th

April is prawning season on the coast. So far all reports are excellent with limits of large prawns coming from off Nanaimo, Alberni, Comox and everywhere else I've head from. Apparently trophy octopus too for some fishermen. Good job Brett, I think.

As always Bauer traps are out producing all other brands. Yum Yum bait is the best choice to bait them with.

The Commercial season is supposed to be mid May this year so now is your chance to load up on prawns.

In the fresh water the Bass are still in their transitional phase between deep and spawning waters. Fish the weed line near the drop-off with Z-Man ElaZtech on walking drop shots.

Also there is a fair bit of interest in the brand new Kokanee fishery we now have on the Island. Shelton and Beavertail lakes both have a good population of Kokanee. Target these guys with sockeye hoochieswedding bands or small pink jigs. The jigs have been very productive in Shelton jigged around the 40ft mark.

Tips up,
