Mid December Report
2019 Dec 14th
Just a quick update on local fishing.
French Creek, Kitty Coleman and Campbell River have both been reporting excellent fishing for Winter Springs. The fish are generally right on the bottom, as usual for this time of year. Use Glow Cop Car or Cookies and Cream Spoons with glow flashers. Also Silver Knight Yellow Tail was very effective if the fish are relatively shallow. As in less than 150 feet, as it is a non glow spoon. But with our clear winter water it's still visible to a salmon fairly deep. Good old fashion cut plug herring have produced some very nice fish in these locations.
Nanaimo is still hit and miss, although more hits than misses. There are plenty of fish, but with less fishermen out there sometimes it's hard to find them. So, if you'r a Nanaimo fishermen get out there and find the fish and then let me know where they are!
Prawning has been great near Entrance Island, and decent around Five Fingers. I've heard a few good crabbing reports, although crabbing has not been great for the last couple seasons. Luckily it does seem to be on the upswing, so lets hope that continues.
Tips up, Stephen Vavrik
