More salmon on the way
2021 Jan 29th
Nanaimo: We have a lot of fish moving around our area. The majority are undersized and most fishermen are averaging 5 undies for every legal. They have moved back out into deeper water as per normal for this time of year. 3” Irish cream behind a chartreuse glow flasher has been the most productive lure. However anchovies with glow teaser heads are producing slightly larger fish more consistently.
Just north of us around Lasqueti and Hornby Islands fishermen are reporting much larger fish. Those fish are heading south so the should be off French Creek and Nanaimo fairly soon. Green Hornet Looney Spoons and Irish Flag Goldstar Spoons have been working there.
Also North Saltspring Island seems to be hot at the moment for larger Springs.
Prawning has been excellent, but remember pulse areas will close at the end of the month.
Herring are already staging close to shore, so if you are heading out don’t forget your herring jigs.
Tips up,
