Smoked Fishermen

 Local fishermen that are braving the smoke are being rewarded with finally being able to retain large Chinook. Tyees have caught both at the Five Fingers and French Creek areas. Darker coloured spoons have been effective. Cop Car, or Purple Haze would be my choice. Cookies and Cream spoon produced two Tyees for one lucky French Creek fisherman that was fishing ‘the humps’. 

Nanaimo fish are holding close to shore and structure. They seem to be very keyed into the bite times, so use your solar lunar tables. 

Coho are moving around the area, but are unpredictible. Try running one lure shallow to target them. Blue hoochies or flash flies have been working for them.

 Nanaimo is seeing very large returns of Pink Salmon. They are holding off Pipers Lagoon area, and in Departure Bay. The beach fishermen are having lots of success with small Buzz Bombs and the small pink Lil’ Nib jig that was designed in Nanaimo for this fishery.
