The Season has Started!
2018 Apr 13th
This years salmon season has kicked off with a bang. The big schools of early season fish are passing by Nanaimo right now. The guys that have gotten out between the wind storms did very well for Chinook in the 15 pound range. Many fisherman got their limits. Most the fish are fairly far off shore. Head out was past Five Fingers Island to the double bumps or even out to the spoil grounds. The fish are not down too deep. Try 130-140 feet down with best lures being mid sized spoons in Pink Sink, Derby Winner and Lemon Lime. Glow chartreuse flashers like our Harbour Chandler custom flasher are doing well.
Porlier Pass is also producing nice fish as well, on similar lures and depths.
In Harbour Chandler news we have received our yearly Gold Star order including a limited amount of the awesome Silver Knight series spoons. They will sell out, so get in and get them while they last. I used some prototype ones last year and they are some of the best spoons I’ve ever used. Also new from Gold Star are a really bright looking series of Plugs in modern colours and patterns. I haven’t tried them myself yet but I know other guys that have definitely had luck with them.
