Wake Up and Get Fishing!
2018 Apr 21st
Nanaimo fishing is still phenomenal. It's some of the best fishing we've had in decades as far as quantity goes. There are not too many big fish yet but I've never heard of so many fishermen catching their limits so quickly. We are starting to see larger white springs in the mid teens, and loads of smaller white springs.
So quit snoozing, clean the cobwebs off the boat and get out there while this lasts!
It will be a bit busy at the launch ramp this weekend with the Serauxmen Service Club Derby. But it should be a great derby with loads of fish.
As for tactics, it's basically the same as last weekend. Fish fairly far off shore, 120-140 ft down in 1000 ft of water. Troll towards the mainland or Texada Island until you hit fish, then work that area.
Best lures are still pink sink, Irish cream, and homeland security spoons paired with the new phantom flashers. Interesting classic chrome and gold spoons are also working very well. Gold is normally a west coast colour, but is certainly good in Georgia straight right now. Try Gold Nugget in 3" spoons or Coho killers.
Prawning is still very hot with large catches reported. It's best to get them before the commercial season.
Tips up,
